چکیده

The structure factor, S(q), is measured for a set of dispersions that consist of liposome vesicles with differing numbers of ionizable surface groups. These systems allow us to probe the dependence of the local structure on the particle bare charge systematically. The height of the nearest neighbor peak in S(q), which is a direct measure of the spatial order of the vesicles, does not increase monotonically with the number of ionizable groups for a given volume fraction. On the contrary, it rather decreases. This feature cannot be explained by means of the classical renormalization scheme based on the cell model. We analyze our experimental data using a renormalization model based on the jellium approximation, which predicts the weakening of the spatial order for moderate and large particle charges and we find a qualitative agreement. © 2005 Elsevier B.V.  In this work, we have shown the important role of the finite-size correction to the work function in predicting the correct position of the centroid of excess charge in positively charged simple metal clusters with different values . For this purpose, firstly we have calculated the self-consistent Kohn-Sham energies of neutral and singly-ionized clusters with sizes in the framework of local sp...

A self-consistent renormalized jellium approach for calculating structural and thermodynamic properties of charge stabilized colloidal suspensions.

An approach is proposed which allows to self-consistently calculate the structural and the thermodynamic properties of highly charged aqueous colloidal suspensions. The method is based on the renormalized jellium model with the background charge distribution related to the colloid-colloid correlation function. The theory is used to calculate the correlation functions and the effective colloidal...

Renormalized jellium model for charge-stabilized colloidal suspensions.

We introduce a renormalized jellium model to calculate the equation of state for charged colloidal suspensions. An almost perfect agreement with Monte Carlo simulations is found. Our self-consistent approach naturally allows to define the effective charge of particles at finite colloidal density. Although this quantity may differ significantly from its counterpart obtained from the standard Poi...

The renormalized Jellium model of colloidal suspensions with multivalent counterions.

An extension of the renormalized Jellium model which allows to study colloidal suspensions containing trivalent counterions is proposed. The theory is based on a modified Poisson-Boltzmann equation which incorporates the effects of counterion correlations near the colloidal surfaces using a new boundary condition. The renormalized charges, the counterion density profiles, and osmotic pressures ...

Evaluation of immune response against autoclaved Leishmania major incorporated into positively charged liposomes in Balb/c mice

Background and aim: Efficacy of vaccines is mainly depending on the type of adjuvant used. Efficacy trials of first generation vaccine against leishmaniasis showed a limited efficacy due to lack of an appropriate adjuvant. The objective of this study was to investigate whether positively charged liposomes containing ALM could induce Th1 type immune response in susceptible Balb/c mice.Mate...
